A Conversation with Our Founder – Changes in Occupational Therapy Through the Years
You may not know, but April is Occupational Therapy month! Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants, are part of a vitally important profession that helps people throughout their lives participate more fully in their everyday activities. Their creative and customized approach to evaluations, interventions, and outcomes can help a child with developmental delays participate in school and social situations, assist a person recovering from injury to regain their professional skills, aid an older adult in living more safely in their home, and offer specialized support and services to people of all ages and in all circumstances that only occupational therapy can provide. In light of Occupational Therapy month, we felt it would be a great time to visit with our first occupational therapist, Susan Harris, the founder of Therapy Specialists. In this conversation we discuss some of the changes that have occurred in occupational therapy from her first job in 1968 until today. Enjoy!
